Katherine Hill, MD - Athleat Health

Katherine Bell Hill, MD, FAAP

Hi there, I’m Dr. Katherine Hill, a board-certified physician with expertise in sports nutrition, REDs, and eating disorders in athletes. I first got interested in this field when I was an NCAA Division I swimmer and embarked on a research project on disordered eating in collegiate athletes.

After going through my own medical saga with an autoimmune disease while in college, I was compelled to become a physician and combine my passion for medicine with caring for athletes. I was fortunate to be able to train and work at Stanford where, as a faculty member in the Division of Adolescent Medicine, I received firsthand clinical experience in their world class eating disorder program. I then had the tremendous opportunity of serving as the lead medical doctor at Equip Health for nearly 5 years where I met my colleague and co-founder of AthleatMD, Megan.

In addition to my role as a physician, I’m a wife, mother of 3, and reside in Decatur, Georgia. I enjoy playing tennis recreationally and even swim occasionally when the conditions are perfect! My favorite part of medicine is getting to know my patients well as individuals and following them on their journey over time. Please reach out if I can be of assistance to you or a loved one. I hope to meet you soon!

I’m deeply passionate about helping athletes overcome their challenges with nutrition and properly fuel for both peak performance and longevity in their sport. I also love supporting athletes through the process of reconciling food and body image issues as they navigate different stages of their athletic careers—whether it’s competition, off-season, pregnancy/postpartum, injury, or retirement from sport.

I’m also a proud wife and mama of two wonderful little boys, and a long-time resident of San Diego, CA.

I look forward to working together!

Heather Caplan, RD

Registered Dietitian

Hello! I’m a registered dietitian specializing in sports nutrition, REDs, and disordered eating. My roots are in athletics—I grew up on the soccer field and in the dance studio, and later found my stride in college as an endurance runner. It was during those years, while studying nutrition and working in a kinesiology lab on a hypothalamic amenorrhea study, that I first learned about REDs. The research felt personal—I wasn’t getting regular periods myself, and didn’t yet understand why.

That experience sparked my passion: empowering menstruating athletes to better understand their cycles, fuel their bodies, and protect their long-term health. For more than a decade, I’ve worked with athletes through nutrition counseling grounded in weight-inclusive, non-diet care, helping them stay strong in sport and in life.

In 2017, I co-founded the Lane 9 Project, where I created an international Directory of Women’s Health and Sport clinicians. I also host the Lane 9 Podcast, where I get to highlight athlete stories with REDs and eating disorders, and connect with fellow clinicians leading this important work.

Outside of work, I’m a parent to three kids, a dog named Banana, and have a home base in Ann Arbor, MI.

Kat McCurdy, RDN, CEDS

Hello! I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist specializing in the treatment of athletes with eating disorders and REDs.

I bring advanced clinical expertise in low energy availability, REDs, and the intersection of performance physiology and eating disorder recovery. As a former Division I cross country and track athlete with lived experience with REDs, I offer a rare combination of firsthand understanding and specialized clinical training, allowing me to effectively treat the nuanced and often underrecognized challenges faced by high-performing athletes.

I practice from a weight-neutral, evidence-based framework, and specialize in helping athletes restore energy availability and physiological function. I regularly work with athletes presenting with complex issues, including chronic underfueling, recurrent injury, hormonal disruption, and performance decline, and am skilled in guiding athletes through both recovery and return to sport.

My experience includes developing and leading a comprehensive sports nutrition program for Holy Names Academy Rowing and serving as the Sports Dietitian for Seattle Pacific University’s Division II athletic program. In addition to my work in sport, I have extensive experience treating eating disorders across the full continuum of care, including partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. I have also completed over 1,200 hours of supervised Medical Nutrition Therapy training at leading academic medical centers, including Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
